From West Head to Manila

Team Nero Bianchi takes another giant step forward

In just over 2 years since pinning a number on for the first time at a club race in Sydney, Team Nero Bianchi will be making their UCI Asia Tour debut at this month’s Le Tour De Filipinas.

The 10th edition of the UCI 2.2 sanctioned Le Tour de Filipinas will bring riders from the cool hills of Tagaytay City, the majestic Mayon Volcano and the scenic mountains of Sorsogon this month.

The five stage tour from June 14-18 will challenge both riders and staff, with the race covering over 700km in what are bound to be hot and humid conditions. Seventy-five riders from 15 teams are competing – with four local Filipino squads holding the fort against the strong crew of international cyclists. Oliver’s Real Food Racing is the only other team from Australia competing at the event.

Nero Bianchi’s Director of Operations Luke Manion points out the tour invitation had come on the back of consistent results, an effective management and development program, and a solid media and engagement strategy -

"We have made no secret of the fact we want to be both a sustainable team that gives riders development opportunities, but also to forge our own direction. We are excited to be adding to the list of Australian teams pursuing results in Asia. It is great for us but also good for the visibility of Australian cycling generally".

This is the tenth Le Tour De Filipinas which forms part of the UCI Asian Tour. While Nero Bianchi's success at the UCI Oceania Tour earlier this year will give both their riders and supporters hope of similar success, there is no doubt this race will provide its own set of unique challenges given the local Filipino riders will be hoping to snare qualifying points for the Olympics.

The tour itself kicks off on Friday 14 June in Tagaytay City, Philippines. You can following all the action via Nero Bianchi’s social media platforms - @teamnerobianhi on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook.
